We're on the road to MooFool

So this weekend I'm making the trip to Cork to play in the MooFool tournament. This tournament is being held to celebrate the 18th birthday of David "The Child" Coleman no longer being a child. I have no doubt the WAC lads will have a new name for him soon, if not already.

Anyhow, I'm fielding the following army

Librarian (125) - Jump Pack. Unleash Rage, Shield of Sanguinius.
Sanguinary Priest (75) - Jump Pack.
10 Assault Marines (235) - 2 Meltaguns, Power Fist.
10 Assault Marines (235) - 2 Meltaguns, Power Fist.
5 Assault Marines (100) - remove Jump Packs, in Razorback (61) - Twin-Linked Lascannon, Dozer Blade, Searchlight.
5 Assault Marines (100) - remove Jump Packs, in Razorback (61) - Twin-Linked Lascannon, Dozer Blade, Searchlight.
Baal Predator (151) - Twin-Linked Assault Cannon, Heavy Bolter Sponsons, Dozer Blade, Searchlight.
Baal Predator (151) - Twin-Linked Assault Cannon, Heavy Bolter Sponsons, Dozer Blade, Searchlight.

Predator (135) - Autocannon, Lascannon Sponsons.
Predator (135) - Autocannon, Lascannon Sponsons.
Predator (135) - Autocannon, Lascannon Sponsons.

It looks probable there will be a field of between 26 and 30 players at the event. Should be good fun, and if I manage to win a few games, all the better.

The Empire rises

So it would appear that the next release for Warhammer will be The Empire, one of my favourite armies of all time. The Empire was my army of choice for the six years that 6th edition Warhammer Fantasy was with us, and even though I played Dwarfs and Dark Elves more recently, I've always liked most things about the Empire. I'm more a fan of the old school Empire style, I like artillery, knights and my state troops to have puffy sleeves (I hate the current ones of these).

So, even with my current dissatisfaction with the state of the game, this is a release that I am excited about, provided GW get it right. Less encouraging is the rumour that the book is written by Robin Cruddace, his stuff so far is hit and miss in my opinion. I have seen the list of possible upcoming releases (no pictures though), and it would appear we are getting the following released on April 7th. No promises here, and unlike half the internet, I will not lie and claim I have a source on the inside.

Empire Army Book, hardback, €33
I buy all these anyway, I'm sure many others will also do so. Reminds me, should really read the Vampire Counts one I bought a while back.
Karl Franz on Deathclaw, in plastic, €43.
While I don't care for special characters, a new plastic Griffon is a nice addition to the range, and it shouldn't be too difficult to convert alternative riders
Celestial Hurricanium/Luminark of Hysh, plastic, €39
Never heard of such a thing before. No doubt this is the big kit every army is getting these days. Predictions : it will be big, impressive, and impractical to transport.
Volkmar on War Altar, plastic, €39
Another much needed kit, although I do wonder if it will be stupidly large and out of scale with the previous Altar.
Demigryph Knights, plastic, 3 for €43
Assume this is some kind of monstrous cavalry. Will they fly though?
Captain, plastic, €10.50
Engineer, plastic, €10.50
Witch Hunter, finecast, €13
Warrior Priest, finecast, €13
Amber Wizard, finecast, €13, splash release
Markus Wolfhart, finecast, €13
Usual supply of characters. Wonder if the Witch Hunter is a new character option in the book? I assume Wolfhart is some new special character.

No guaranteed word on new Knightly Orders. There are rumours of new Knights, but that could be the Demigryph ones.

I'll be keeping an eye on this. I have a few Empire figures painted somewhere here in Talabheim colours (my original army was Middenland, but they're old, damaged and poorly painted) that I had started. This may or may not be impetus to get a few more. Let's wait and see.

To Baal or not to Baal

Recently I've been having problems with my Predator army, in that I'm having next to no success with my Baal Predators. The Assault Cannons are severely underperforming and far too often the gun is blown off and I'm left with no offensive output. The AutoLas Predators are performing better, and at least can do something useful if they lose a gun. However, the Jump Infantry contingent are still doing the bulk of the heavy lifting in the army.

I'm scheduled to attend MooFool in UCC at the end of the month, and I'm still not sure which army list to take. Here are the three options I have in mind.

Option A- Essentially my WarpCon army, although the Librarian drops Fear of the Darkness (nice, but rarely used) for Unleash Rage.

Librarian (125) - Jump Pack. Unleash Rage, Shield of Sanguinius.
Sanguinary Priest (90) - Jump Pack, Power Weapon.
Sanguinary Priest (75) - Jump Pack.
10 Assault Marines (235) - 2 Meltaguns, Power Fist.
10 Assault Marines (235) - 2 Meltaguns, Power Fist.
5 Assault Marines (100) - remove Jump Packs, in Razorback (61) - Twin Linked Lascannon, Dozer Blade, Searchlight.
5 Assault Marines (100) - remove Jump Packs, in Razorback (61) - Twin Linked Lascannon, Dozer Blade, Searchlight.
Baal Predator (121) - Twin Linked Assault Cannon, Dozer Blade, Searchlight.
Baal Predator (121) - Twin Linked Assault Cannon, Dozer Blade, Searchlight.
Baal Predator (121) - Twin Linked Assault Cannon, Dozer Blade, Searchlight.
Predator (135) - Autocannon, Lascannon Sponsons.
Predator (135) - Autocannon, Lascannon Sponsons.
Predator (135) - Autocannon, Lascannon Sponsons.

Option B - Give the Baal Predators Heavy Bolter sponsons. I need to drop a Sanguinary Priest in order to do that. This allows the Baals to have a role if I get a weapon destroyed against them, and gives me extra anti-infantry and light vehicle firepower.

Librarian (125) - Jump Pack. Unleash Rage, Shield of Sanguinius.
Sanguinary Priest (75) - Jump Pack.
10 Assault Marines (235) - 2 Meltaguns, Power Fist.
10 Assault Marines (235) - 2 Meltaguns, Power Fist.
5 Assault Marines (100) - remove Jump Packs, in Razorback (61) - Twin Linked Lascannon, Dozer Blade, Searchlight.
5 Assault Marines (100) - remove Jump Packs, in Razorback (61) - Twin Linked Lascannon, Dozer Blade, Searchlight.
Baal Predator (151) - Twin Linked Assault Cannon, Heavy Bolter Sponsons, Dozer Blade, Searchlight.
Baal Predator (151) - Twin Linked Assault Cannon, Heavy Bolter Sponsons, Dozer Blade, Searchlight.
Baal Predator (151) - Twin Linked Assault Cannon, Heavy Bolter Sponsons, Dozer Blade, Searchlight.
Predator (135) - Autocannon, Lascannon Sponsons.
Predator (135) - Autocannon, Lascannon Sponsons.
Predator (135) - Autocannon, Lascannon Sponsons.

Option C - Get rid of the Baal Predators altogether. In their place I can take a second Librarian and third Assault Squad instead, while transferring their Searchlights to the regular Predators.

Librarian (125) - Jump Pack. Unleash Rage, Shield of Sanguinius.
Librarian (125) - Jump Pack. Unleash Rage, Shield of Sanguinius.
Sanguinary Priest (90) - Jump Pack, Power Weapon.
Sanguinary Priest (75) - Jump Pack.
10 Assault Marines (235) - 2 Meltaguns, Power Fist.
10 Assault Marines (235) - 2 Meltaguns, Power Fist.
10 Assault Marines (235) - 2 Meltaguns, Power Fist.
5 Assault Marines (100) - remove Jump Packs, in Razorback (61) - Twin Linked Lascannon, Dozer Blade, Searchlight.
5 Assault Marines (100) - remove Jump Packs, in Razorback (61) - Twin Linked Lascannon, Dozer Blade, Searchlight.
Predator (136) - Autocannon, Lascannon Sponsons, Searchlight.
Predator (136) - Autocannon, Lascannon Sponsons, Searchlight.
Predator (136) - Autocannon, Lascannon Sponsons, Searchlight.

I may not get time to try out both armies. I'm scheduled to play Alan at the club on Wednesday night, and won't get another game in before the deadline for list submission. I'll probably try Option B, as he doesn't like my Jump Pack troops for some reason.

Gabbin' about Gatormen

I've been working slowly on my Blindwater Congregation Minion pact over the last year or so since they've become available as a faction in their own right. They're my first army for HORDES, although I've played Cygnar in Warmachine for quite some time now. I've picked up most of the available models at this stage, apart from the Boneswarm, Swamp Horror and the Gatorman Witch Doctor (I want two of these). I'm going to paint up the following as my first 35 point list

Bloody Barnabas/Calaban, the Grave Walker/Maelok the Dreadbound (all +6WP)
Blackhide Wrastler (9)
Ironback Spitter (8)
Bull Snapper (3)
Bull Snapper (3)
Wrong Eye & Snapjaw (9)
5 Gatorman Posse (9)

Of the above figures, I have painted Barnabas, the Blackhide Wrastler, a Bull Snapper and 3 of the Gatorman Posse. I also got Maelok painted for me by Ciaran Bolger, as part of last year's DGG Secret Santa. I need to finish the last 2 members of the Posse, the second Bull Snapper, Wrong Eye & Snapjaw and the Ironback Spitter, several of which are currently WIP.

I'm hoping the Congregation brings a complete change from my regular Cygnar. The limited amount of ranged fire should do that, plus I'm looking forward to playing a more aggressive, in your face style. I'll put up a few pictures soon, when I finish the painting of the first list. Then I look forward to getting them on the table and wrecking some face.
