And now for something completely different

Now that Warpcon has come and gone (expect a tournament result soon, I'll post it when I get the photographs sorted), I'm happy with where my Flesh Tearers army stands right now. With 1850 the new ETC standard, I expect most large tournaments to retain this points level. My list as used at the weekend seems very solid and I can't see where it needs refined, so I can move on to a new painting and modelling project. I will return to the Flesh Tearers from time to time to add new squads or vehicles.

After last year's North Wexford Gamers event (my report can be found here - http://lennyexperiment.blogspot.com/2011/10/north-wexford-gamers-2011-tournament.html), many of us on the w-ired forums decided we would build and paint new armies for the event. The NWG tournament allows players to include forge world rules (with the exception of super heavy vehicles, D-weapons and a few others) but requiring players to have the actual models, you can't proxy. The award for best painted was named the Anyone But Frank award (which, of course, was won by Frank), so we have created the NWG 2012 Anyone But Frank challenge.

My project for the event will be a Dark Angels Ravenwing force, although I will not be painting them in Dark Angels colours, I've designed my own colour scheme. I have decided to name them the Sons of Asgard. This is the test colour scheme on a basic Tactical Marine.

Now, it might not be the best of ideas to build an army for a new edition I don't know the rules of, and using a Codex that is rumoured to be updated before the event. So I'll just say that I'm painting a nice army which I hope will be a lot of fun. Last year's event was 2000 points, so I'll build towards that for now.

Sammael, Master of the Ravenwing (205) - Land Speeder.

Librarian (155) - Space Marine Bike, Meltabombs.

Ravenwing Attack Squadron
6 Bikers (305) - Standard Bearer, Apothecary, 2 Meltaguns, Sergeant w/Power Fist
Attack Bike (50)
Land Speeder (100)

Ravenwing Attack Squadron
6 Bikers (275) - 2 Plasma Guns, Sergeant w/Power Fist.
Attack Bike (50)
Land Speeder (100)

Ravenwing Attack Squadron
3 Bikers (165) - 2 Meltaguns, Sergeant w/Power Fist.
Attack Bike (50)

Ravenwing Support Squadron
2 Land Speeders (175) - Multi-Meltas, Typhoon Launcher, Assault Cannon

Ravenwing Support Squadron
2 Land Speeders (175) - Heavy Bolters, Typhoon Launcher, Assault Cannon

Ravenwing Support Squadron
3 Land Speeders (195) - Multi-Meltas.

You will note I have not included any Forge World in the list. The only thing available to fit the theme is the Land Speeder Tempest. If anyone knows of has the book featuring the rules for this, can they let me know where I can find them?

I'll be needing to pick up some more bikes and land speeders for the army. If anyone has any of these unassembled they don't want, I'm open to reasonable offers.

  1. Good to see you at the weekend man. This sounds like a class idea. Rumour has it that the new Dex might be out shortly though, so I would urge you to plan for discrepancies in your list building. Also, have you checked out these Jetbikes from maximini(http://www.maxmini.eu/store/images/mxm_figs/gotjetbike1.jpg) and (http://www.maxmini.eu/store/images/JetbikeColor1.jpg) I think they would be perfect for some character models.

  2. I think it might be best to stick to the more generic parts of the army at first, regular bikers, special weapon bikers and the Speeders with the weapons magnetised. I'm hoping to have more flexible options for the Speeders in a new dex.

  4. Cool, thank a lot for that.

Now, the question is whether it's worth the points value.
